I use this website: [Link: research.att.com]
You can choose the voice and type in what you want it to say, and it will make a wav file for you for download.
I like "Mike"
I have a few voice commands setup on my mx-950
But be careful not to use too many wav files.
I found out that for some reason wav files use a lot of RAM on that remote.
Plus you will need enough of a delay after wav file for it to complete.
If you have a lot of commands after the wav file in your macro you may not need a delay.
Have fun.

BTW What remote are you programing?
If it's an mx-950, I have a great setup on mine with voice commands, countdown screens, DVD/CD collection menus(with cd/dvd cover art, limited to the mx-950's impaired graphics) for my sony mega changer , etc..
I also use movie collector and music collector, along with photoshop(to tweek graphics). The mx-950 is neat for voice comands, but use them sparingly.
Graphics need some work in photoshop(sometimes on a pixel basis to get it to show right on remote). But if you save in grayscale jpegs, the remote almost has unlimited capacity for graphic pages.
I also found that , using photoshop, you can use 6 point text to get more text on remote via a image(I can get 2 text lines per LCD button that way).

Oh...I get it...you want WAV's to state the macro name. Duh!

Unfortunatly, text-to-speec sounds unnatural. If you know someone with a real good voice (such as a radio host), having them record one may work too.

True.
But try that site out.
That program they use sounds pretty close to natural.
Plus it's easy to get the wav files for the remote.
I have my power button macro turn everything on, set inputs, and then switch to the weather channel on my cable box, since that's the first thing my wife puts on in the morning before work.
So my power button macro(punched through to all devices) says" powering on..weather channel for Mary"(2 wav files).
My wife's name is Mary, so she gets gets a kick out of it saying her name and putting on the weather channel for her.
Sounds like a lot, but with proper placement of wav files it all switches pretty fast with little delays.
It also personaizes the remote.
The MX-950 isn't great on graphics, but the voice personalization compensates.
I also have the "watch cable TV", "watch DVD", etc., wav files programed on my remote, that he wanted, so when he said he wanted that, it hit me what he wanted to do.

Ahh the mx-3000 is nice, in that it's color and has a bigger LCD.
But I wanted the mx-950's form factor.
Both remotes basically have the same works(16mb RAM, unlimited devices/macros/varibles/wav, etc.).
I liked Triple-B's DMX-3000 ideas so much, that I made my 950 work simular to how he has the 3000's for mega changers.
But people are more impressed with the voices on the remote.
I keep that site bookmarked for my remote.
It makes it quick and simple to change wav files for the remote.
I am awaiting for the mx-810 to come out.
I may upgrade to it.

I have been doing some kewl remotes with the text to voice and other wav files that I download from site's. But my problem is its hard to hear them so I turn up the volume on the remote. Then the Regular "beep" is way loud. The only way i know how to defeat that is to put a sound on the button.

The real Question.
Does anyone have a "null" sound?

Yes this will be very Time consuming to Progam but as have my templates for devices i most commonly install the one time Dull programing will be worth it if I can turn up the sound and have it not "BEEEP" at me.

Thanks,
Dave

There is a MUCH simpler way.
You can disable the "beep" by going into your mx editor:
File> user preferances
Check the box for beep>None
This will make all buttons silent, unless there is a wav file attached to them.

But be careful with too many LONG wav files.
I found out that I was using 92% of my remote's RAM and couldn't firgure out why until I started removing some of my long wav files.
For some reason the remote must load the sounds into RAM.

Sweet it worked like a charm. Wonder why the labeled it so poorly.

What happens when the RAM is full? Will it stop fuctioning? I have so many wav's on the demo one here at the store. it Has not failed?

That's a question for someone from URC.
I have been working with a setup for an mx-950 for the last couple of weeks to have a nice CD/DVD menu system to use coverart(to a limited degree) to select CDS and DVDs from genre lists on the remote.
The setup is quite big and I keep checking the RAM space on the remote and refining the macros, etc., to be as compact as possible using nesting macros, etc.
I also have wav files, and countdown graphic pages, for certain buttons to add that extra WOW factor.
But when I initially started checking the RAM space used on the remote I was amazed at the RAM using 92%.
It worried me that if too much ws used it would cripple the remote.
I thought it may have been the graphics, but it wasn't, it was the long wav files.
There is 2 different areas of RAM.
Active and data.
Active RAM was using 92% but data ram was only at 9%.
I can see varibles and graphic pages temporarily being loaded into active ram but wav files?
Anyway by removing some of the long wav files it lowered the active ram down to a comfortable 60-70% on my remote.
A suggestion would be to check the remote's ram out after a setup is downloaded to it to see how much is being used.
Or maybe a firmware update is needed for at least the mx-950 to release wav files from active ram after playing them.

Good.
Then I am not the only one seeing this with lots of wav files on remote.
Let me know what you find out.

What is strange is that you would expect jpg graphics to take up more ram, not wav files.
But on my remote, which has tons of coverart jpgs(reduced to grayscale 64x64 bit though), the jpgs don't, but the wavs do.

On the 3000 it won't download to the remote if the file is too large. I have had this happen with too many wav files.

Note that you can adjust the size of the wave file too. What bitrate are you using? 24 or even 16 kbps should suffice for a simple voice comment.
